FREE FOOTIE

Run by an EMCN partner, Free Footie is a totally free after school soccer league for kids who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity to play because of cost or other barriers they face.

WHAT WE OFFER

What Free Footie offers:

  • This is a for fun soccer league with a strong emphasis on fair play, respect and learning through sport. It is NOT competitive.
  • In addition to learning how to play soccer, children make new friends and gain a sense of belonging
  • Children develop teamwork and good sportsmanship

HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK

Most of the schools start practicing in March/April and then play games May-June.There are no registration fees and every child is given a pair or shin pads, soccer socks, shorts, a ball and a jersey. Girls and boys play on the same team. There are no dress requirements, so everyone is free to wear what they wish – this includes long pants and hijabs.

WHO CAN ACCESS THESE SERVICES?


  • Girls and boys in grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 who attend one of the over 40 participating schools around Edmonton.

WHERE IS THE PROGRAM OFFERED?

Free Footie takes place right after classes with games scheduled so teams play against other teams right in their neighborhoods. Transportation is provided to get the kids to games at nearby schools.

HOW TO ACCESS SERVICES

Children who attend participating schools will be given a letter bring home to parents. Parents must then go online to register.
