Paola is a senior executive with over 20 years of experience leading finance teams in the public sector, financial institution and currently in the heavy equipment industry where she is the Manager Corporate Finance Risk and Controls at SMS Equipment Inc. She is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) in Alberta, first receiving her Chartered Accountant (CA) designation in 2015.
Paola is a Commissioner for Oaths in the Province of Alberta, recently obtained her Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation and is currently working towards her Canadian Risk Management designation.
Paola was born in Peru and immigrated to Canada in 2002 and firmly believes in the mission and vision of EMCN and the positive impact that an organization like this has on newcomers’ lives.
She is fluent in Spanish and as an immigrant herself has experienced firsthand the challenges of being a newcomer as well as the importance of belonging and being part of a community that you can call home.
Paola joined EMCN’s board in 2017 and is grateful for the opportunity to serve this organization ensuring is financially healthy to continue serving Edmonton Newcomers. Paola served as the Board Treasurer and was the Chair of the Audit and Finance Committee for the period 2018-2022. She is currently serving as a member of the HR and Audit and Finance Committee.
