The Open House is an opportunity for candidates to learn more about the Program Coordinator position and gain insight into EMCN’s culture and values. We will review the job description and the skills and attributes we are looking for; then, we will open up the space for questions from candidates and provide examples of our work in practice.


Constructing Futures is a 6-month full-time integrated occupational skills training program that provides essential workplace skills and access to the labour market for unemployed or underemployed immigrants who want to pursue careers in project management.

Since 2017, Constructing Futures has supported nearly 150 internationally educated professionals in building their careers in project management here in Canada! Participants build their skills through 16 weeks of training and a 10-week work experience placement in a project management-related role. The program offers opportunities for participants to build connections with local employers through in-class networking events. The program is outcomes-based.

THE ROLE: Program Coordinator

In this role, you will ensure that the Constructing Futures program, funded by Alberta Labour and Immigration, is meeting its goals. In addition, you will be the primary facilitator of classroom activities. This position is a term position starting May 16, 2022, until September 30, 2023.

As coordinator, you will:

  • Lead overall program delivery by overseeing administrative processes, writing monthly funder reports, leading marketing activities, gathering stakeholder feedback, and promoting continuous improvement in the program based on labour market trends and participant needs.
  • Recruit and assess participants for the program.
  • Develop and maintain strong industry partnerships with employers, relevant accreditation bodies and other critical stakeholders within the business sector and community.
  • Own outcomes based on the program’s deliverables. A commitment to its required targets is essential.
  • Collaborate closely with the Practicum Coordinator to organize networking events with industry partners, secure practicums and job placements, and monitor participants’ success during their practicum and job search.

As a facilitator, you will:

  • Facilitate employment readiness classes that present up-to-date and relevant information in an imaginative and inspiring way; topics include business communication, job search and networking, etc.
  • You are someone who possesses strong leadership and supervisory skills with relevant project/program coordination experience.
  • You will not be afraid of challenges and see them as an opportunity for growth and increased knowledge.
  • Develop and revise curriculum and course materials based on participant needs.
  • Collaborate with a team of facilitators to develop standards of practice for employment programming.

  • Experienced within the project management field and can bring this experience into the classroom as a role model.
  • You are energetic, passionate, and imaginative, and you think outside the typical approaches to program coordination and facilitation to constantly iterate within the program.
