NEST is a 5-month full-time training program to help you improve your essential skills so you can more successfully find work and participate in the community. Essential skills are:
- reading text
- use of documents
- writing
- working with numbers
- oral communication
- thinking skills
- working with others
- computer use
- continuous learning
This program is free and you may qualify for funding while studying.

- Increasing your awareness of the labour market
- Conducting a successful job search
- Researching employment or education opportunities for your future
How the program works
This program is delivered twice a year to 20 eligible applicants each time and includes (20) weeks of full-time classes with the Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers
You can apply to this program if you are
Applicants must fulfill the following eligibility requirements:
- Unemployed or marginally employed
- A resident of Alberta; Permanent Resident, new Canadian Citizen, Refugee with positive Notice of Decision Letter
- Canadian Language Benchmark 3 or higher in all skill areas: (reading, writing, speaking and listening)
- Highly motivated and commitment to completing the program
